The program is usually conducted
over four, 2 hour sessions, with three half hour
follow-up telephone sessions.
Introduction to the concept of positive parenting.
Maintaining a positive relationship with your teenager
helps alleviate some of the stress that inevitably
comes with the teenage years.
Encouraging the behaviour you like increases the
chances of the behaviour happening again. The strategies
parents will learn can help encourage their teenagers
to behave appropriately by enhancing their relationship
with them, rewarding them for desirable behaviour,
and teaching them new skills.
All teenagers need to learn to accept limits and
control their disappointment when they do not get
what they want. Parents will learn positive and effective
ways to help teenagers learn self-control, and deter
short-term benefits in favour of longer term goals.
As teenagers strive to become independent, they may
experiment more and take unacceptable risks. This
program will help parents educate their teenager
to recognise risky situations, avoid them if possible,
and escape from those that can’t be avoided.
These sessions are designed to provide ongoing support
for parents as they put into practice the strategies
introduced in the previous four sessions. These sessions
are tailored to meet individual family needs and
assist with any issues or concerns.
These programs can be provided as an individual or
group program at Solutions Focus Psychology or as
a group program in schools and other educational
organisations.
As part of the parenting program, we also conduct
2 hour Information Sessions at Day Care, Pre School
and School settings. We provide parenting tips and
the opportunity for feedback and discussion.
